On March 29, 2008, The Pomeroy and Sadsburyville Fire Companies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Lincoln Highway for what a burning odor. Crews from the Pomeroy Fire Company quickly responded to the scene after a day of Rapid Intervention Team Training. Battalion Chief Adam Grossman of the Sadsburyville Fire Department was the first to arrive on the scene, reporting "nothing showing from the exterior". Upon his further investigation, Battalion Grossman detected an odor of burning food and instructed firefighters to gain entry; since windows and doors of the structure were locked forcible entry was gain via the door.
Once inside the building, fire fighters encountered a heavy smoke condition in one of the apartments; the cause was traced to an oven on 'self-clean'. Fire fighters quickly ventilated the apartment to clear the smoke meanwhile confirming the residence was vacant.
Once the apartment was smoke - free, all units returned available.
