by Career staff EMT Kriss Salinsky

On Monday, March 24th, 2008, at 1343 one Engine, from the Pomeroy Fire Company was dispatched to assist on a house fire in the area of Ims Drive on Route 82 in East Fallowfield. Shortly after the dispatch, Assistant Chief 44 of the Westwood Fire Company arrived on location to report an abandon house fully engulfed in flames in the Prange's Junkyard, located on Route 82.

Ambulance 29-1, Brush 29 and Engine 29-5 responded to the scene. Upon arrival to the scene, crews were made to stretch over 1500 of hose line to reach the burning structure due to the over growth in vegetation. A back hoe was brought to the scene by the East Fallowfield road crews in efforts to create a clear path to the house. The back hoe was later used to spread out of the debris from the burning structure in efforts to extinguish remaining hot spots. The fire was reported to be under control at 1436 hours, however crews from Modena, Po-Mar-Lin, Pomeroy and Westwood Fire Companies remained on the scene until appromixately 1700 continuing to supress hot spots and clean up.
